Disdance Workshop

To finish our music unit on "Body Percussion" we had a very special visitor in school today. Peter Francis from Disdance is a former member of Stomp and he worked with us to create some routines!

We all had a really great time, and learnt a lot. Here are some photos of us in action. Watch out for the video clips from the completed routine, at the end of the slideshow!

Biscuit Self Portraits

This term in art we have been creating self-portraits in lots of different styles. Mrs Boultbee came up with a brilliant final project for us...

Last week we all decorated biscuits to look like ourselves. we choose different types of biscuits, and differnt coloured icing to reflect our skin tones, we used smarties to give our eye colour, and chose from the resources available to make our hair, and any other features. At the end of the day we ate one biscuit each, and took one home to show to our families. We also left one for Mrs Savage to try!

Here we are with our completed biscuits-just before tasting them!

Percussion using Hands and Feet

Yesterday in music we continued thinking about creating rhythm using different items. This time we used our own bodies.

First we watched a video clip of Stomp performing using hands and feet. We discussed how they created different sounds, and how they used a mixture of loud and soft sounds.

We then got into groups and worked together to create our own performance using the video as inspiration for our own ideas. We showed our performance to another group who gave use some tips for how to improve. After we had included these ideas we all performed to the class.

Here are the performances for people to watch at home...

Junk Music

Thanks to all the junk we brough in on Monday we were able to have a fantastic music lesson

We started by investigating what sort of sounds we could make using the junk materials, and sorted them into groups. We then worked as a class junk orchestra, with Mrs Davies as conductor, to put the sounds together. We thought carefully about different rhythms, and tried different orders and combinations of sounds.

Then we split into smaller groups, each with a mixture of different materials, and worked as a team to create our own percussion performance! As you can see, we used the materials in different ways, created different rhythms, and some of us even had a go at conducting!

We definitely all had a really great (and noisy!) time!

Writer of the Week

The writer of the week is...

Ella!

Ella has written a fabulous poem about Autumn, using all of her senses. Ella has worked really hard to improve her handwriting, and remember her finger spaces. She has also included describing words to make her poem sound more interesting.

Colours and Senses

This week in literacy we will be writing more poetry using our senses-this week we will each be writing a colour poem.

Today, to get started with some ideas we set up each table in the classroom as a different colour; red, yellow, green and blue. On each table there was something to taste, smell and touch linked to that colour. We really enjoyed exploring the colours using our senses. We then wrote down our own ideas, and wow words to describe each colour, inspired by what we had experienced.

What a great start to the week!

Writer of the Week

This week's writer of the week is...

Emre!

Emre worked really hard to write a brilliant senses poem. The thing that stood out for me was his spectacular use of wow words (he even used a thesaurus to find some of them!) However, as you can see he also remembered to start each idea on a new line, he used a range of punctuation and he remembered to use lovely, neat handwriting. Well done Emre!

Senses Poems

This week we have been learning about our senses. We have definitely smelt, tasted and heard lots of different things!

In literacy we have begun looking at poetry. We thought of wow words to describe things, using each sense. We read lots of sense poems, one of our favourites was "That's What I like by Janice Johnston, here it is to read at home...

That’s what I Like

Giant slides and swings
Kites on long strings
Smiles Grandma brings
That’s what I like to see.

Loud music and bells
Giggles and yells
Stories mum tells
That’s what I like to hear.

Sweeties to munch
Carrots that crunch
Ice cream for lunch
That’s what I like to taste.

Freshly baked bread
Shampoo on my head
Clean sheets on my bed
That’s what I like to smell.

Silky smooth ribbons
Soft purring kittens
Warm woollen mittens
That’s what I like to touch.

By Janice Johnston

After we had read and discussed the poem, we practised reading it together with actions. Then we worked as a team to create our own version of the poem. Here we are performing our finished poem...

Please leave a comment about our poem, or perhaps you could think of some more lines we could add?

Making Smoothies

Last week we learnt about healthy eating and in literacy we looked at lots of different types of instructions. As part of this work,  on Thursday we made our own, healthy fruit smoothies. Then on Friday we wrote instructions for how to make them so that other classes could enjoy them as well!

We all really enjoyed making the smoothies, and tasting them was even better! Mrs Davies and Mrs Boultbee really enjoyed them all!

Here are some photos of us making the smoothies...

Please leave a comment about making smoothies. What was your favourite part of making them? What ingredients did you use? Which one did you enjoy the most?

Riddles

This week in literacy we have been learning about riddles.

In class we all wrote a riddle to describe ourselves.

We learnt that riddles should:
  • Start each clue on a new line
  • Have a capital letter, and full stop or exclamation mark for each clue
  • Describe something or someone
  • Use exciting words
  • Use connectives for some clues
  • Imagine that the person or thing being described is talking
  • Start with the hardest clue, and get easier
Now please leave a riddle for us to guess!

Who Do You Think You Are?

Our first topic this year is "Who Do You Think You Are?" As part of this topic we will be learning all about ourselves, and the other people in our class.

To start us off with our topic, and our class blog, I thought we could each share some facts about ourselves...

Remember, once your comment is on the blog, it can be read be all our visitors. So make sure it is something you are proud of, and want to share!
