Disdance Workshop

To finish our music unit on "Body Percussion" we had a very special visitor in school today. Peter Francis from Disdance is a former member of Stomp and he worked with us to create some routines!

We all had a really great time, and learnt a lot. Here are some photos of us in action. Watch out for the video clips from the completed routine, at the end of the slideshow!

Percussion using Hands and Feet

Yesterday in music we continued thinking about creating rhythm using different items. This time we used our own bodies.

First we watched a video clip of Stomp performing using hands and feet. We discussed how they created different sounds, and how they used a mixture of loud and soft sounds.

We then got into groups and worked together to create our own performance using the video as inspiration for our own ideas. We showed our performance to another group who gave use some tips for how to improve. After we had included these ideas we all performed to the class.

Here are the performances for people to watch at home...

Junk Music

Thanks to all the junk we brough in on Monday we were able to have a fantastic music lesson

We started by investigating what sort of sounds we could make using the junk materials, and sorted them into groups. We then worked as a class junk orchestra, with Mrs Davies as conductor, to put the sounds together. We thought carefully about different rhythms, and tried different orders and combinations of sounds.

Then we split into smaller groups, each with a mixture of different materials, and worked as a team to create our own percussion performance! As you can see, we used the materials in different ways, created different rhythms, and some of us even had a go at conducting!

We definitely all had a really great (and noisy!) time!
