Olympics Powerpoints

In ICT this term we learnt how to make Powerpoints. We used this to create our own Powerpoints in pairs, to show information about the Olympics. We created pictures in Colour Magic, we then imported them to Powerpoint and added captions. Finally we added animations and even some sound effects!

Our Year

As we are coming to the end of the year we are thinking about our memories of The Jets. Some are funny, some are sad, some are exciting, but most of all they are happy!

Our Film Premiere

During our literacy lessons this term we have been learning about Greek Myths. We finished the unit by making our own films to retell different Greek Myths. Finally, on Friday, we held a red carpet premiere to showcase our films to a special audience!

We started the day by rehearsing our speeches. We then made ourselves some VIP badges, and reserved signs for our seats. Then we made posters to advertise our films. After lunch we had one final rehearsal, then we got changed into our glamourous outfits for the premiere-we all looked fabulous!

At the premiere we all walked "the red carpet", and did some spectacular poses at the end! We then took it in turns to present our films to the audience. They were all very impressed. After the hard work was over we had some popcorn then finished the afternoon with a photo shoot (including a very reluctant Mrs Davies) and a quick dance performance!

It was a fabulous day, and will hopefully leave us with some great memories. Thanks to the children for all their hard work, and to anyone who was part of our special audience! Here are the completed films, so they can be watched again at home, as well as some photos from the event.

Sports Day

Summer Fete

Last night was Albert Village's summer fete. The Jets had been busy all week creating items to sell on the craft stall. Luckily we had some expert sellers to help on the stall...

 

We had also been continuing rehearsals of our Indian dance, which we initially learnt during our PE lessons during last half term. The Jets decided that the summer fete would be the ideal time to perform the dance. As you can see below, the final performance was a great success!

Theseus and the Minotaur

As part of our topic on The Olympics, in literacy we are looking at some of the Ancient Greek myths.

Last week we read the story of Theseus and the Minotaur. We completed lots of activities to help us get to know the story, before writing it ourselves on Friday. One of the activities was interviewing some of the main characters from the story. As you can see, we thought of lots of challenging questions, luckily the characters were very good at answering them!

The Diamond Jubilee

On Thursday we celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. We all came to school dressed in red, white and blue. I was very impressed by some of the creative outfits!

We started the day with a special assembly, where we were each presented with a commemorative coin, and a Union Jack flag by the mayor of Ashby Woulds-Sue McKendrick. (We were also very honoured, to later find out, that Sue McKendrick had voted for us in the education blog awards!)

After the assembly we returned to class to take part in a mixture of jubilee activities; we wrote poems, designed our own commemorative coins and stamps, organised timelines of the Queen's life and made model Grenadier Guards.

Finally, in the afternoon the whole school got together for a celebration tea party. The school hall had been fabulously decorated, and everybody in school had worked together to provide plenty of food. We all had an amazing time, and I am sure that it was a day we will all remember!

The Native Americans

Our last unusual building this term was Teepees or WigWams.

Linked to this we have been learning about Native American music, art and culture. In literacy we watched Pocahontas, and used the film to think about characters' thoughts, feelings and behaviour. We have really enjoyed this work.

India

Last week our Unusual Building was the Taj Mahal, in India.

In our topic lessons, we spent lots of time finding out about the Taj Mahal, and the country of India (We even had a Taj Mahal building competition! We also had an art lesson focusing on lots of Indian art, and learnt our own Indian dance routin in PE!

In literacy we used the computers to write non-fiction pages about India, to show what we had learnt.

Olympic Torch Relay

Our topic after half term will be The Olympics.

The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch

Last week in literacy we focused on the story of  The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch. As part of our work we acted out the story in different ways.Some groups performed the story themselves, while another group planned and performed a puppet show.

This week our Unusual Building has been Lighthouses.

In literacy today we wrote our own lighthouse poems, we came up with some fabulous descriptions!

The Eiffel Tower

Our unusual building this week is the Eiffel Tower, in Paris, France.

We would love to have a class trip to visit it in person, but instead we have been exploring the website, and learning some interesting facts about the Tower. We especially enjoyed the virtual tour, and watching the video of the Millenium Fireworks!

Red Hen Interviews

After telling the story of The Little Red Hen, we decided to find out more about the characters' thoughts, feelings and behaviour. We decided to create our own chat show and staged some interviews!

Last week, in topic work,  our unusual building was Windmills. So in literacy we did the story of The Little Red Hen.

We started the week by learning how to tll the story, using a story map. We then planned how to add extra details to make the story more exciting. Here we are telling the basic story...

Tamworth Castle

On Thursday we finished off our work on castles with a visit to Tamworth Castle.

We had been really looking forward to the trip, and it definitely lived up to expectations, as you can see...

St.George's Tea Party

Today was St. George's Day, and after all our hard work learning about him we thought we should celebrate the day itself! 

After lunch we joined up with the Year 6 children to prepare for our St. George's tea party. We made sandwiches (cucumber or jam), decorated cakes and made decorations. Once all the preparations were complete we went back to our own classsroom to enjoy the tea party. 

We finished the afternoon by doing some St. George art activities, to add to our classroom display. It was a fabulous afternoon!
