Our Adverts

During the last couple of weeks we were very busy designing our own "Cracking Contraptions!"

We worked in pairs or small groups to; design them, make models of them, write explanations of how they work,  plan and film our own TV adverts.

Despite a very busy last week at school, most groups managed to edit their adverts into a finished product. Here they are for you to enjoy...

Please leave a comment about our inventions and our adverts. Would you buy our products??

Human Machines

On Monday afternoon we had a special drama workshop!

In our session we thought about the different parts of machines, and how they work together. We then created our own human machines in groups. Finally we came together as a class to create a massive machine!

Cracking Contraptions!

In literacy we have been looking at Wallace and Gromit's Cracking Contraptions, and writing explanations for how they work.

We realised that they invent things to make their everyday lives simpler. Sadly, things don't always go as planned!

This week we are designing our own Cracking Contraptions, writing manuals for them ,and creating adverts. Watch this space to see what we come up with...

Mrs Armitage Stories

Last week we compared the Mrs Armitage stories by Quentin Blake. We spotted lots of similarities and differences. We also worked out the pattern the stories follow, and decided to have a go at writing our own stories.

To begin with we knew we had to include the characters of Mrs Armitage and Breakspear the dog. Then we decided on a form of transport for them to use in our stories. Next we planned 3 problems, and 3 resolutions to do with their journey. We realised that Mrs Armitage normally changes the vehicle in some way to fix her problems! Finally we thought about how we wanted our stories to end.

Then we worked in pairs or groups to plan our stories by drawing a story map, and rehearsing telling the stories.

Here we are performing our stories...

Writer of the Week

We have started our new topic "Cracking Contraptions." In literacy we have been focusing on the Mrs Armitage stories by Quentin Blake. We have really enjoyed reading about the eccentric Mrs Armitage and her faithful dog Breakspear.

Last week we retold the first story-Mrs Armitage on Wheels. Our Writer of the Week is...

Millie. M!

Millie retold the story in lots of detail, using a combination of language from the story and her own ideas. She worked really hard to make sure she told the whole story. Well Done Millie!
