Maths Teachers

This term in maths we have been learning about vertical addition, and using the inverse of times (division) to create maths stories.

As we are now moving onto a new block we decided to show off what we have learnt! the children worked in twos and threes to create videos on the iPads. The idea was to act as teachers and explain how to solve different problems, some were more successful than others! No matter how detailed the explanations, all the maths and computer skills were excellent!

Here are the videos...

Unfortunately some videos are missing as some groups did not manage to save and publish their completed work.

Maths-Measuring Capacity

In maths last week we had our first lesson on a new type of measurement-capacity and volume.

We worked in groups to measure different amounts of water in millilitres using measuring jugs. We soon found how important it was to be able to read a scale accurately!

Geometry Hunt

In our Geometry maths lessons this term we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes, and lines of symmetry.

For our final lesson we decided to test how much we have learnt. We went exploring around school, and took photos of interesting things. Then we labelled them with maths information!

Here are some examples of our work...

Telling The Time

In our Data and Measure Maths lessons we have been learning to tell the time. It has been quite tricky but we are starting to get the hang of it now!

For some extra practice at home, have a go at these games which we have played in the classroom...

Shape Hunt!

In maths today we were looking at 1D, 2D and 3D shapes. We were really good at idenifying which type of shape each one was, we could even name a lot of the shapes!

To practise our shape spotting skills, Planets Group went on a shape hunt around school. They found a lot of 2D and 3D shapes.

Please look at the photos and see what they found. What shapes have you spotted?

Geometry Hunters!

Today in maths we decided to use the school grounds to practise our geometry skills. We looked carefully at our school building, field and playground, in order to find examples of:
  • Symmetry
  • 2D and 3D shapes
  • Right Angles
Once we found an interesting view we took a photo using the ipads, and recorded our explanations of the geometry features.

When we got back to the classroom we watched our recordings, and discussed what we had done well, and what we need to practise more! Each group chose one recording to share on the blog. Here is the link to our favourite recordings!

Measuring Scavenger Hunt

In maths this year we have done lots of different types of measurements, including:
  • Length
  • Direction
  • Mass
  • Angle
  • Capacity
  • Perimeter
While the weather wasn't too bad, we decided to practice our measuring. We went outside for a measuring scavenger hunt. We had to find things that were a specific length, height, perimeter, mass, number of right angles or even faced a specific compass direction.

Here we are during the challenge!

Telling the Time

In maths we have been working on telling the time on digital and analogue clocks. we have learnt a lot, but we still need to practice, so here are some games to try at home...

Maths Challenge

Yesterday in maths we practised partitioning numbers.

Let's see how many partitioning maths stories we can get in the comments section.

I'll start us off...
