The Jets Class

Today we have been looking at our class blog. We have decided we need to use it more!

To get started we are each going to leave a comment to share an interesting fact about ourselves.

We would like our grown-ups to leave some comments too! Thank you :-)

Getting to know our new teacher!

Hello everyone!

My name is Miss Ward and I will be teaching in Year 2 from January 2016. I would like to say a HUGE well done to Year 1 and 2, they performed their Christmas play brilliantly to the whole school today. Their costumes looked fabulous too!

Here is a sneaky peek of Adam, in his costume, ahead of the children’s final performances next week. He looks great!

We have completed a carousel of different activities this morning to help me to get to know the children. They have shared lots of interesting information about themselves and all the children were really engaged (especially with the beach ball activity!). Here is a class flower we made by drawing around our own hands, making beautiful, bright petals. The children had to choose five adjectives to describe themselves to write on the fingers, it looks great at the front of our classroom.

Another activity focused on what the children need to improve to help them achieve their full potential in Year 2. We had some brilliant contributions, some children want to improve their handwriting and lots have recognised how they can improve their behaviour during lesson time.

Finally, the children thought about what Miss Ward needs to do to help them to achieve their best in Year 2. Some children would like extra homework, and a few children wanted extra help with their spellings. I particularly liked Aaron’s contribution, which is to help him to be a star. These suggestions have all been noted and I will try my very best to help you achieve your potential.

I am now going to create our class bunting with all your lovely work from today. Don't worry if you were away today, we will make sure you get a chance to add your work to our displays. Have a great weekend and I will see you all next week,

Miss Ward.

St. George's Day

Today we learnt that it was St. George's Day and in literacy we found out all about the patron Saint of England. We read the story of George and the Dragon, and researched some real life information about St. George's life. Then we completed a range of activities:
  • Writing facts about St. George
  • Sequencing the story of George and the Dragon
  • Acting out the story of George and the Dragon
  • Creating a model dragon
  • Creating an animated version of the story of George and the Dragon
Here is one of our animations, to enjoy at home...

Here are the pictures of our sponsored Fitness in schools session. It was a baking hot day but everyone took part. The tasks started quite simple but became increasingly tricky! Everyone tried their best and had a brilliant time.
Well done Jets class!

Yesterday The Jets class visited Tesco to find out more about our food and where it comes from. we had a great time looking behind the scenes, and we learnt a lot. We got to see how the bread is prepared and baked, learnt about the different fish, tasted lots of cheeses and even stepped inside the giant fridge and freezer!

Here are some photos of our day...

Recipes for a Superhero

This week in Literacy we have been looking at recipes.

We explored the features of recipes, and decided to write a recipe for a superhero! First we thought about ingredients, then added adjectives that began with the same sound to get some alliteration. Then we planned some time openers and bossy verbs to use in our recipes.

To practise our recipes before we write them, we made our own cookery shows!

Here are the videos...

George Saves the World by Lunchtime

This week in literacy we read the book "George Saves the World by Lunchtime."
George Saves the World by Lunchtime
It is all about saving the world using the 4 Rs: Recycling, Reusing, Repairing and Reducing. We also looked at explanation texts, then planned our own explanation for how George saved the world. Here we are performing our explanation:

On Monday we will be writing our explanations.
